The Adventure Continues

This summer has been a whirlwind as we wrapped up videos for Her Children Arise, joined hope*writers, wrote a book proposal for my next book, flew to the She Speaks Conference by Proverbs 31 Ministries, pitched my book idea to several publishers and now...

I am excited to share that I have just signed with Books and Such Literary Agency! I am thrilled to be working with Cynthia Ruchti (what a gem!) and to have her represent me as my literary agent!

My writing journey started when God made it clear to me that I was going to write Her Children Arise. Y'all, I can't tell you how many times I told him I wasn't a writer and He picked the wrong girl. (Yes, I told GOD He was wrong on several occasions. I’m not proud of it, but I’m not ashamed of it either because He has taught me so many things on this transformative journey.) Even when I finally obliged, I told God, "Fine. One book."

But here's the thing about God - He knows me way better than I know myself. He called me a writer long before I called myself one. And as He pours thoughts and ideas and desires into this little heart of mine, I will share them. I am a storyteller, after all and His story is worthy of being told. God knew that eventually, I couldn't tell Him "no."

"You have searched me, Lord, and you know me." Psalm 139:1

In 2004, I was applying to be a teacher through Teach for America and held the application in my hand apprehensively. I was talking to my dad on the phone saying, “I’m not a teacher! I don’t know why I thought this would be a good idea. I don’t have what it takes to be a teacher!” My dad lovingly said, “Are you kidding me?” He then began to list the many different ways I would be, not just a teacher, but a really good teacher. He pointed to all of the things in my life, the activities and organizations I was a part of, my attributes and character traits, and my hobbies and interests that all pointed toward a career in education. He saw a whole lot more in me than I saw in myself. He was able to see the bigger picture, that God had been grooming me for that role for many years.

Fifteen years later, and it’s not my dad, but my Father telling me the same. I’ve always loved telling stories - God knows that about me. He planted that within me - I just never saw myself telling them in this capacity. I didn’t dream that one up on my own. But that’s why God’s dreams are so much better than our own; I may as well hop on board!

So here I am on the brink of another adventure that I didn't initially set out on, but that now brings me inexplicable joy and giddy anticipation as He opens doors for His story to be shared by this storyteller. I am grateful - and a little scared (not gonna lie) - and oh so ready! This week someone asked me about my occupation and for the first time, without stuttering, averting my gaze or mumbling, I confidently said, “I am a writer.” Cynthia, I am so excited to be on your team! Let's do this! To God be the glory!
